The component technologies and structure of modern seismic network infrastructures shall be capable to fulfil many, sometimes contradictory, requirements and realize various tradeoffs in achieving target figures of accuracy, reliability, power autonomy, real-time response and costs of installation and data storage and communication. This work describes the design and implementation of a low cost, smart embedded professional seismograph, which can be configured to be efficiently and effectively support both, typical seismological and geophysical data collection networks, as well as recent, real-time event detection and response setups for earthquake early warning applications, by exploiting an elaborate combination of established traditional and newest IoT technologies.
